About: In 1888, Edmonton Catholic parents applied to organize a separate school district for their children. Three sisters from the Faithful Companions of Jesus sailed from France to open a convent and a school in Edmonton (St. Joachim Catholic School). The ECSD has grown from one school to 100 with more than 42,000 students. Edmonton Catholic Schools is committed to offering a Christ-centred, competency-based learning experience for all learners. St. Oscar Romero High School is situated in the Callingwood community. It opened in 2004 and is named after St. Oscar Romero, who was appointed Archbishop of El Salvador in 1977 and who stood for social justice. Romero High School strives to build a learning community that focuses on social justice issues and human relationships. St. Oscar aims to meet the varied needs of students: academic, spiritual, social, and physical. All courses include a collaborative student-centred component to promote team building and problem-solving. As each student has gifts, St. Oscar's goal is to foster those gifts to promote success and personal growth.

Course variety

St. Oscar offers French and Spanish language courses, Advanced Placement in English, Biology, Calculus, and Art, and various language exam challenges. It also has a Dual Credit program in partnership with NorQuest College.

Athletics

Romero Ravens work hard as a team, playing to "protect the nest".  The Raven's creed professes discipline, dedication, and desire. Teams include Badminton, Basketball, Cheer, Cross-country running, Curling, Football, Golf, Ski/Snowboarding (Club Yeti), Soccer, Swimming, Track & Field, and Volleyball.
