Academics
Ontario secondary school diploma
The achievement of the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) is what our students are aiming for. The OSSD and the student’s final transcript are what will allow them to gain admission to universities and colleges worldwide. In order to achieve the Ontario Secondary School Diploma, students must successfully complete a total of 30 credits (18 of which are compulsory and 12 that are electives), the Ontario Literacy Test, and 40 hours of community service. A credit is passing (50% and above) a 110-hour course.
Community Involvement Hours
As stated in Ontario Secondary Schools, Grades 9 to 12: Program and Diploma Requirements, every student must complete a minimum of 40 hours of community involvement activities as part of the requirements for an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD). Effective July 1, 2011, students are able to start accumulating community involvement hours in the summer before they enter grade 9.
Junior Middle School
The College's emphasis is on building a foundation for lifelong learning and devotion to one's dreams and inspiration. Expectations for academic achievement are set high, yet balanced with an enriched Ontario Ministry of Education-approved curriculum. We combine our enriched curriculum in Mathematics, Science, Languages, Arts, Business, Humanities, and Technology with recreational athletics, music, drama, visual arts, and an exciting community and social activities.
High School:
Grades nine (9) and ten (10) make up the last two years of the intermediate curriculum in the Ontario Ministry of Education’s requirements for the Ontario Secondary Graduation Diploma. These years, with their largely compulsory subjects, provide the skill and content base for specialization in the senior division.
Canadian Independent College offers preparatory courses for University or College to students in Grades 11 and 12. These courses are designed to aid the students to gain the knowledge base and skills they need to meet the entrance requirements for University or College programs. Emphasis is placed on the theoretical aspects of the course content, as well as concrete applications.
